I went through a bout of numbness a couple weeks ago. Even though there has been so much going on in the world, I had no clue why. The hardest part is that I felt like I hit a wall when I would sit down for quiet time with God.
After a couple weeks, sitting in silence, I felt like the Lord kept telling me that he loved me. Over and over and then He said, “Give me the burden.”
I hadn’t realized it, but I was holding onto and taking responsibility for so much. I was holding onto things God never asked me to carry.
In that moment, God showed me that when we hold things that only God is meant to carry, the only logical response is to feel numb.
I don’t have the emotional capacity to play the role of God.
If your load feels heavy, look at what you’re holding onto. What are you assuming control over or worrying about? What are you claiming as your responsibility that’s not? The Lord’s yoke is easy and His burden is light. When I put the proper things back into God’s hands, the heavy load was lifted from my spirit, and I began enjoying the things the Lord has entrusted to me.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”Matthew 11:28-30
